JBCE's Environment & Energy Committee submitted its views following the call for comments proposed restriction of Dechlorane Plus under EU POPs Regulation

24/07/2024

On 24th July 2024, JBCE submitted its views proposed restriction of Dechlorane Plus under EU POPs Regulation.

JBCE understands that this proposed restriction of Dechlorane Plus under EU POPs Regulation aims to achieve a toxic-free environment. However, we emphasize the need to add "outdoor power equipment" and "instruments for analysis, measurements, control, monitoring, testing, production, and inspection" to the specific exemptions for spare parts to extend product lifetimes and avoid increased waste. Additionally, realistic transition periods for substitution need to be carefully considered for each sector and its sub-sectors. Specialized devices, such as those for analysis, measurement, require longer transition periods to ensure performance, safety, and durability, preventing socio-economic disruption and supporting the EU's circular economy.
