JBCE's Environment & Energy Committee submitted its view following the call for comments on the proposed restriction of MCCPs under the EU POPs Regulation.

19/12/2025

On 19 December 2025, JBCE submitted its views on the proposed restriction of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) under the EU POPs Regulation.

JBCE understands that the proposed restriction aims to contribute to the EU’s “zero pollution vision for 2050” and reflects discussions held under the Stockholm Convention. While supporting the overall objective, JBCE emphasises the need for realistic transition periods to enable safe and reliable material substitution.

JBCE highlights that even where potential alternatives exist, additional time is required to verify product performance, safety, durability and robustness. In particular, specialist devices—such as transport, medical, monitoring and control equipment—have longer design cycles and lifetimes and therefore require longer transition periods to avoid market disruption and negative societal impacts.
