JBCE updates
JBCE's Environment & Energy Committee submitted its view following the call for comments on the proposal to restrict LC-PFCAs under the EU POPs Regulation.
19/12/2025
On 19 December 2025, JBCE submitted its view on the proposed restriction of Long-Chain Perfluorocarboxylic Acids, their salts and related compounds (LC-PFCAs) under the EU POPs Regulation.
JBCE understands that the proposed restriction of LC-PFCAs is aligned with the EU’s “zero pollution vision for 2050” and reflects discussions held under the Stockholm Convention. However, JBCE highlights the importance of ensuring regulatory consistency and practical enforceability across international and EU legal frameworks.
In particular, JBCE emphasises the need for unintentional trace contaminant (UTC) limit values to also apply to articles, in line with existing EU legislation and international practice. JBCE further stresses that sufficient transition periods are necessary to allow adequate supply chain communication, data collection and analytical verification, taking into account current technical limitations.
