JBCE's Environment & Energy Committee submits its comments on the simplification of administrative burdens in environmental legislation
10/09/2025
On 10 September 2025, JBCE submitted its views on the simplification of administrative burdens in environmental legislation. Our key messages can be found below:
- Facilitating Cross-Border Operations
JBCE encourages the EU to harmonise customs procedures and technical standards to ease administrative burden and help SMEs participate more effectively in the Single Market.
- Promoting Proportionate and Practical Legislation
JBCE recommends that EU rules be designed to remain practical and scalable, supporting innovation and compliance without placing undue pressure on businesses. Reporting and information obligations should be suspended until harmonised standards are available.
- Fostering Consistency Across Member States
JBCE highlights the importance of consistent regulatory implementation to avoid fragmentation and ensure fair competition across the EU and calls for the abolition of duplicate reporting obligations.
- Evaluating Cost-Effectiveness Of Digitalisation Tools
JBCE believes it is essential to evaluate the actual impact of newly implemented IT systems on business operations. We recommend discontinuing SCIP due to its limited effectiveness and the increased operational burdens it imposes.
JBCE details its views and insights in its position paper which can be downloaded below.
